5 Reasons We Love the Historic Seelye Mansion
Named an “8 Wonders of Kansas – Architecture”, the Seelye Mansion is like a time capsule. Most of the home’s furnishings were purchased at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. The furnishings cost more than the $55,000 that was spent building the 11,000 square foot home.
1. Tiffany Fireplace
In the Grand Hall, visitors can admire the Tiffany-designed mosaic tile fireplace.
2. Steinway Piano
There is nothing like the sound of a Steinway echoing through the first floor of the Seelye Mansion. And where else can you play a 1920 Steinway Grand Piano picked out by Mr. Steinway himself?
3. Amethyst Glassware
Mrs. Seelye loved to entertain and spared no expense on her guests. Guests of the Seelye family were served on Haviland China, amethyst glassware, and other elegant pieces of tableware.
4. Box Ball Alley
Visitors to the Seelye Mansion can enjoy bowling on the 1904 box ball alley that was ordered at the St. Louis World’s Fair. Reports are a bowling museum once offered $1 million for this rare alley, but the alley is staying put.
5. Terry Tietjens

The historic Seelye Mansion would not be what it is without Terry Tietjens. Not only did Terry and his brother save the Seelye Mansion, but his willingness to open the home for daily tours is also much appreciated.
The historic Seelye Mansion is open daily for tours Monday - Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday from 1-4 pm.
