5 Weekend Events to Add to Your Calendar in 2022
School is back in session, and temperatures are approaching more bearable degrees, so it's time to look at your calendar and plan out the remaining twenty weekends of the year. Yes, twenty. That's all!
1. Chisholm Trail Days - Friday, September 2 & Saturday, September 3
Celebrate the historic cattle trail at the end of the Chisholm Trail during Chisholm Trail Days at Old Abilene Town.
2. Oktoberfest - Saturday, September 17
Abilene Oktoberfest is excited for its 5th annual Oktoberfest held in Downtown Abilene. Enjoy German Dancers, music, authentic German food and rinks. This year we will have three beer gardens and multiple food vendors, Masskrugstemmen, Hammerschlagen, a cornhole tournament and a kids' korner featuring bouncy houses, outdoor games, face painting, and more. Come early and shop local!
3. Heritage Days - Friday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1
The annual Heritage Day Festival features living history with blacksmith and antique agriculture demonstrations, steam engine carousel rides, an antique tractor show, a classic car show, model trains, and much more.
4. Wild West Gravel Fest - Saturday, October 8
Wild West Gravel Fest is a gravel bike race in Dickinson County, KS. The 50-mile distance allows racers that are new to gravel to get their feet wet (dirty!) The 125-mile race will take racers on an epic ride through this beautiful county.
5. Cowtown Christmas - Saturday, December 3 & Sunday, December 4
Visit Abilene December 3-4, 2022, for the Heritage Homes Association’s 45th Homes for the Holidays Tour, enjoy an Old Fashioned Christmas at the Dickinson County Heritage Center and Old Abilene Town, tour the historic Seelye Mansion and see more than 60 beautifully decorated Christmas Trees, ride the rails with Santa and the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad, see the live production of The Christmas Schooner - A New Musical at Great Plains Theatre, take an evening cruise and see Griswold-style decorations during the Cowtown Christmas Light Showdown, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to see Santa, remember to shop small all season long at Abilene’s small businesses and wrap up the evening with a downtown fireworks display!
