6 Events to Fall in Love With
Now is the time to check your calendar and plan a fall road trip getaway! With fall right around the corner, this means cooler temperatures and great opportunities to gather and celebrate special events outdoors in the Favorite and Friendliest U.S. Small Town!
Conveniently located along Ike's Interstate 70, Abilene is less than an hour from Manhattan, Salina and Fort Riley and less than two hours from Wichita and Kansas City.

1. Abilene OktoberFest - Saturday, September 17
Abilene Oktoberfest is excited for its 5th annual Oktoberfest held in Downtown Abilene. Enjoy German Dancers, music, authentic German food and rinks. This year we will have three beer gardens and multiple food vendors, Masskrugstemmen, Hammerschlagen, a cornhole tournament and a kids' korner featuring bouncy houses, outdoor games, face painting, and more. Come early and shop local!
2. Throw Down at Brown's 2022 - Saturday, September 17
Enjoy a disc golf tournament at the beautiful Brown Memorial Park! This Year will be bigger and better than last year. Two 20-hole rounds at Browns Memorial Park. Lunch will be available to purchase on-site, and player packs will not disappoint. Raffle prizes the day of and much more.
Payout will be on-site and provided by Flex Shot Disc Golf.
3. 44th Annual Heritage Days - Friday, September 30 - Saturday, October 1
The annual Heritage Day Festival at the Dickinson County Heritage Center features a living history with historic agricultural demonstrations, steam engine carousel rides, an antique tractor show, a classic car show and much more. This year, the featured tractor will be the Massey-Harris.
And, as a special bonus, the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad's Steam Engine will be operating!
4. Impact the Cure - Saturday, October 1
Starting in Old Abilene Town this year, Impact the Cure is an annual Breast Cancer Awareness 2-Mile Fun Walk. Impact the Cure will kick off the community celebration of the 100th birthday of Memorial Hospital (est. 1922).
5. Wild West Gravel Fest - Saturday, October 8
Wild West Gravel Fest is a gravel bike race in Dickinson County, KS. Races include 200k, 100k, 50k and 5k rides, and a 5k run.
6. National Greyhound Association Fall Meet - Monday, October 10 - Friday, October 14
