Why Abilene?
Born in Denison, Texas, on October 14, 1890, Dwight D. Eisenhower moved to Abilene when he was just two years old. Abilene shaped him, and he proudly claimed it as his hometown, stating, “the proudest thing I can claim is that I am from Abilene!” Each year, Abilene pays tribute to its favorite son with events surrounding his birthday, providing a glimpse into his incredible legacy and the community that helped mold him into a leader.
