Discover Abilene This Summer: Six Attractions Included in Kansas’ 2025 Sunflower Summer Program

on June 20, 2025

From July 12 to August 3, explore Abilene’s history, culture, and entertainment with free admission for Kansas families

Abilene, Kan. – The Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau is proud to announce that six Abilene attractions will participate in the 2025 Kansas Tourism Sunflower Summer program: Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad, Dickinson County Heritage Center, Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum, Great Plains Theatre, Historic Seelye Mansion, and Old Abilene Town.

“We’re excited to have so many outstanding attractions participating in this year’s Sunflower Summer program,” said Julie Roller Weeks, Abilene CVB Director. “This program encourages families to spend quality time together, learn about our state’s history and culture, and enjoy real-life experiences away from screens. That kind of connection is good for families and good for Kansas.”

The Sunflower Summer program gives Kansas families with school-aged children the opportunity to explore and fall in love with Kansas. It provides free, affordable access to attractions across the state and strengthens the Kansas tourism economy.

Eligible families can download the Sunflower Summer App to claim tickets to participating attractions. Each eligible student may bring one accompanying adult who also receives free admission. The 2025 season runs from July 12 to August 3.

In 2024, more than 10,000 program participants visited Abilene to enjoy its attractions.

“We appreciate the Kansas Legislature’s continued program funding and investment in Kansas families and Kansas tourism,” added Roller Weeks.

Kansas Tourism, a division of the Kansas Department of Commerce, leads the initiative to inspire travel throughout the state and increase tourism’s positive impact on Kansas communities.

“Kansas Tourism is excited to have these Abilene attractions as part of the Sunflower Summer program,” said Kansas Tourism Director Bridgette Jobe. “This program is an incredible benefit for Kansas families, and Abilene’s expanded participation will help make the 2025 season our best yet.”
